1UZ Thunder Truck: DiGiovanni’s 1000HP Ford F100 Unleashed
Clint DiGiovanni has done it again, pushing the boundaries of custom automotive builds with his latest masterpiece: a 1977 Ford F100 that’s been transformed into a 1000HP, twin-turbocharged beast. This isn’t just another engine swap; it’s a meticulously crafted machine that showcases DiGiovanni’s decades of experience and his relentless pursuit of performance.
The Heart of the Beast: 1UZ Power
At the core of this incredible truck lies a Toyota 1UZ V8, but this isn’t your average Lexus engine. Scott Pitt at Scott’s Performance Engines worked his magic, reinforcing the stock crank with Arias rods and Ross forged pistons. Ported heads, custom Bain Racing cams, and Supertech 2JZ-GTE valves ensure optimal airflow and power delivery. Twin BorgWarner S300SX turbos force air through a Plazmaman throttle body and a custom-built plenum, creating a symphony of forced induction. With a run-in tune and only 9psi of boost, this powerhouse already churns out 560hp at the hubs, hinting at the potential for much more.
Fueling the Fire: Aftermarket Industries (ai) Precision
To handle the immense power, DiGiovanni turned to Aftermarket Industries (ai) for a high-performance fuel system. This critical upgrade ensures consistent fuel delivery and pressure stability, even under the most demanding conditions. This ai system is a testament to the importance of a well-engineered fuel system in high performance applications.
Built to Perform: Driveline and Chassis
The power is transferred through a fully manualized Turbo 400 transmission with Coan gears and a Dominator converter, leading to a custom-built sheet-metal 9-inch rear end with Strange 35-spline axles and a Wavetrac LSD. The chassis has been completely reworked, featuring a Jaguar IFS front end and a custom four-link rear suspension with Strange coil-overs.
Style and Substance: A Custom Masterpiece
DiGiovanni’s attention to detail extends to the truck’s aesthetics. Shaved door handles, a filled tailgate, and Cadillac tail lights give it a sleek, custom look. The striking lime-over-black paint job, complete with intricate flames, sets it apart from the crowd. Inside, a minimalist, race-inspired interior features an AiM dash and FuelTech screens, providing vital performance data.
